Karma Kameleon: Journal 12/14/06
Right, so very random moment here. I saw a drag show in Vegas last weekend and one of the lovely “ladys” did a Culture Club tune dressed as Boy George. It was really quite fabulous considering a) I love drag shows and b) I love Culture Club. Those are two of my guilty pleasures. That and The Carpenters…oh, and Journey. Geez, one of these days I’m just gonna make a big list of my guilty pleasures and post it for the whole world to see. Maybe I won’t be quite as embarrassed about them anymore.

Above:Â Little shy me with “Whitney Houston”.Â
P.S. It took a good scrubbin’ to get the lipstick off my forehead.

I had to go sign some papers at my unit’s armory yesterday and they told me that a promotion offer had come in for me. Meaning, on the big list of soldiers, my name came up as having enough medals, rank, and physical fitness score to advance to the next level. So they offered me a position as a Sergeant which would make me a Master Radio Operator. The catch? Stay in the Army for god knows how long. Too little too late is what I say. I happily took the fax, printed “I, Jami Gibbs, do decline the offer of promotion to Sergeant.” Sign. Initial. I’m finished. Done. No more army. No more war. No more spirit crushing ignorance and illogical decisions. I bounced out of our orderly room and took a HUGE lung full of fresh air when I got outside. It felt great to finally start to feel a separation from the army.
Other random tid-bits:
Still haven’t found an apartment. I’m going ovaries-to-the-wall today though.
Lastly, I’m in the process of meeting up with other musicians to get a band together. It’s exciting and frustrating all at once. I really like meeting new people, especially other musicians, but it’s hard when I know immediately that a person wouldn’t click musically with me. I have to decide to keep going with the meeting or cut it short. I’ve even thought about having someone fake call me just in case I can’t find an out of the conversation. Luckily I met a really cool bassist the other night who lives so close to me I could just puke. Good start to a great project I think.
