That picture in my header? It’s Chicago in the distance with Lake Michigan surrounding her. To the right would be the museums. I’ve never lived in the city, only just beyond the city limits but I love her none the less. Even without a Chicago zip code on my address, I’ve spent enough time there to make it feel like home.

But I like the photo because you can’t immediately tell that it’s Chicago. It’s a way for me to compromise my true suburbanism with my inner urbanism. And I’m looking at the city from a distance, admiring it, loving it for all it has to offer. But at the end of the night I can drive back to the relative comfort and security of the suburbs.Â Sometimes I think that’s the best part of Chicago…Â having the option to leave it at the end of the day.

The bottom line is that it has my heart.
