I recently joined a website community called Helium. It’s goal is be “the best user-created reference source”. They rely on writers like you and I to write quality articles on a vaste list of subjects. Once you write an article and publish it with them, it gets ranked next to other articles written in that topic.

And of course, there’s money involved too. Higher ranking articles equals more money. The more people that read your article, the more money you get. But most importantly, it’s a way to stretch those writers muscles. It feels like a warm up for the big stage (like being published in magazines, books, etc).

There are also constant competitions that pay cash prizes plus opportunites to get the articles you write into print.
