Tempted by Sedaris

Required school reading has finally gotten to me and I went out yesterday and bought David Sedaris’ Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. It’s been at least five months since I’ve read a book for pleasure and not as a requirement. The beautiful thing about a Sedaris book is that they usually contain about 20 creative nonfiction essays. I rationalized that I could easily read one of his essays (which usually takes less than 30 minutes to finish) as a reward for an hour or two of school work.
God, am I a geek.
While I was at the book store, I saw that they were hiring too. I thought it might be a good idea to apply since I’ll need something to occupy my days once I graduate. When I was 15, my first job was at a, now defunct, bookstore. I was also a proud employee at an independent bookstore near my university for my first two years in college. But that place was run out of business by the massive chain stores that have swept across the country. At the time, I was pretty pissed off about it.
But guess where I just applied at? Borders. The queen bee of corporate bookselling scum.
I guess with financial need comes a backseat for personal morals. I’m feeling pretty guilty about that.
I’m also feeling guilty that I just read another Sedaris essay when I still have a conclusion to write for my Chaucer paper.
