Tell The Boss; Check. International Drivers Permit; Check.

in Israel, Work!
I finally told my boss I’ll be leaving to Israel. I think this may have been the hardest act of courage to muster so far. Prior to the news of my depature leaking around the office, I was starting to feel some pressure to apply for a manager’s position within the company. This news pushed me even harder to make a final decision about my journey and then to make my intentions clear as soon as possible. So, yesterday, I knocked on my boss’ office door and sat down with my chin up and conviction in my eyes.
I was very nervous, of course, but told her the facts as bluntly as possible and then paused for a response. After a mere second of anticipation she said flatly, “When life calls, you must answer”. And I felt completely relieved. We spoke for several minutes about a position in the future and then I was back at my desk. My tentative leave date from my own personal “Office Space” is March 29th.
And today I’ve checked off another task from my list. I have in hand an International Drivers Permit (IDP). Recognized by over 150 countries world wide, the IDP essentially translates your drivers liscense into ten languages and is recognized as proof of valid driving eligibility in your home country. I obtained mine through AAA who is recognized by the federal government as an authorized provider. Here’s what they say about obtaining an IDP:
When traveling overseas, carry an International Driving Permit … even if you’re not planning to drive. Should you need to communicate with foreign authorities, this recognizable form of identification can help you get on your way more quickly.
It’s not valid without my actual drivers license. So, it’s essentially just another form of identification. At a cost of only $15 plus two passport photos, who can complain? Better safe than sorry. Anyone interested in obtaining an IDP of their own can check out the AAA information page here and then head on over to your local AAA branch to have it processed in less than 10 minutes. Or, check out the U.S. State Department travel site here for other options in obtaining and using one overseas.
Israel in 1 month and 7 days.
