Change Locations, Change Luck
Holy lack of posts, Batman!
oops. Again, I lost track of the days and forgot my Tagged Tuesday series (or any other posts for that matter). Luckily, I can pre-date my posts to still keep solidarity! mwahahahhaha…. I’ll post a new tag momentarily.
In the mean time, a general update.
I changed classes at Ulpan Gordon. I found myself at the point of absolutely loathing my class and had long passed the point of retaining any new information. After a certain point, things were going WAY over my head. This made me feel overwhelmed, anxious, and (most intensely) frustrated. I was getting really down on myself and felt cheated out of the money and time I had already put into the course.
I went to the office and explained my situation and voila! Now I’m in a two month course that started at the beginning of July. The office allowed me to sit in the class for one day to see if would be a good fit for me and for the first time since starting ulpan, I walked home feeling elation Yes, the new class is taking me back a little to things I had already learned, BUT with repetition comes confidence and with confidence comes speaking and with speaking comes faster learning.
Needless to say, Hebrew has just become much more amusing and far less defeating.
The instructor in this class is tougher than my previous instructor. She doesn’t hestitate to reprimand someone for talking outside of their turn, for not listening, for not memorizing the new words from the day before. … in short, she’s a Jewish drill sergeant. It’s crossed my mind to stretch before class in anticipation of being punished with push-ups for helping the girl next to me with a translation.
I think I would feel differently about this new teacher if I was “fresh off the Hebrew boat” again. But I know how to read and write now and it’s making the experience much more pleasant. Instead of being irritated by her tough teaching style, I’m welcoming it to push me harder and to help me focus.
For now, ??? ????! (Everythings ok!)
