Tagged Tuesday!! Israeli Graffiti Part 6

While not particularly impressive, I wanted to post this Israeli graffiti with a short story attached to it.

I woke up early one morning just before dawn was about to creep over Tel Aviv. At the time, I think I was still adjusting to the jet lag and I knew that I wouldn’t be able to go back to sleep. After laying in bed for several minutes and my eyes refusing to close again, I remembered that I was only a five minute walk from the Mediterranean Sea. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to experience the Israeli dawn and sunrise.

I threw on my pants and started to walk in the pre-dawn light with anticipation of the beauty I was about to see.

About half way to the beach, geography started to creep into my brain. Let me explain.

In Chicago, the massive body of water the city is built next to (Lake Michigan) is to the east of the city. I’ve always orientated myself when driving in the city to the water. My brain has been conditioned to think, “Large body of water. That must be east”.

In Tel Aviv, the Mediterranean Sea is on the west side of the city. Of course I knew this before I came to Israel, but my conditioned brain was thinking, “Large body of water. That must be east”.

It didn’t take long for me to realize the mistake I made and I knew that I wouldn’t be seeing the sun rise over the Mediterranean that day… or any day, for that matter. I made a mental note to try and catch the sunset instead.

On the way to my non-sunrise, I took a photo of the graffiti below. It seemed appropriate:

This weeks featured Tel Aviv graffiti wasn’t exactly found in Tel Aviv, rather, in Jaffa.

The two cities are Siamese twins to each other and are often described as one big city; Tel Aviv-Jaffa or Yafo. Jaffa is MUCH older than Tel Aviv (archaeological evidence shows settlements in Jaffa 7,000 years before Christianity) but Tel Aviv was spawned from it. So, I thought it fitting to include graffiti from there.

This weeks featured Tel Aviv graffiti is another cute little Lego man outside of Ulpan Gordon. They have a thing for the Lego man here, I think.

This weeks featured Tel Aviv graffiti is a cute little Lego man I came across on the way to Dizengoff circle.

A bad day melts away after seeing him.
